LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMME

Livelihood Programme

Agriculture is the lifeline of rural folks. However, varied rainfall patterns have demeaned the quality of produce, leaving the villagers stranded. Hence livelihood enhancement is a one of the important agenda in our CSR list.

Limited employment opportunities and exposure to varied business practices have constrained their earnings which are not enough to suffice for their basic daily needs.

Improved agriculture practice, better cattle breed, training to the youth etc have been the key focus areas undertaken by us.

1. “Silai School” for rural women & girls

It is aimed at providing opportunity to rural women / girls to enhance their skill through various skill development trainings. Through this skill development training programmes, rural women can generate income through small sewing & stitching works at village level.

To further scale up the quality of training, this year we the skill development program in association with USHA International Ltd. established a “Silai School”.

2. Entrepreneurship Development training for rural youth

  1. Under Government of India’s Skill India campaign, nationalized bank has established “Rural Entrepreneur Development Training Institute (RSETI)” in every district for providing various type of income generation training on diversified trades to ensure quick loan facility to the participants for starting their own business. In Damoh District, State Bank of India is also running RSETI by which we were able to provide 6 days training to 39 rural youths on “Self-Entrepreneur Development”. The training was completely residential to ensure that rural youth can focus on the training contents. After completion of the training, certificates were awarded by RSETI.
  2.  Our target is to make rural youth self-reliant by enhancing their skills their by enabling them to contribute towards their family income.

Quality and purpose orient training covering all aspects of trade is extremely helpful. For ensuring the same we have engaged the training agency “Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CEDMAP)” sponsored by Government of Madhya Pradesh, Central Financial Institutions & Lead Banks of the State.

In these training on three trades viz. Motor winding, Electrical & Home appliances repairing and Beauty Parlour are organized for skill development. Each training’s duration was 3 months covering 40 participants in each trade. Total 240 rural youth trained and awarded with completion certificate.

3. Knowledge Enhancement Training for Farmers

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is one of the Government’s initiative to provide all kinds of training and information on best agricultural practices. Most of the farmers are not aware about the KVK program, hence we have able to bridge the gap by organizing a one-day training programme at Damoh benefitting 54 farmers.

There were scientists from Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Husbandry shared training covering topics on:
  • Government’s vision to make “Double the income” of each farmer by providing information on new cropping pattern with low investment.
  • Providing knowledge on best farming practices.
  • Treating seeds & using culture.
  • New practices of sowing, cultivation & field preparation.
  • Using farm ponds & Govt. schemes of Agriculture, Horticulture etc.

4. Development of New Sakshmata Vikas Kendra (SVK)

To ensure regular participation of rural women for skill development training centres, it is important to provide quality trainings in a conducive environment. We have recently built a new “Sakshmata Vikas Kendra (SVK)” at Narsingarh staff colony. This skill development training centre has adequate space for training with proper provision of lighting, fans & washroom facility for rural women.

5. Livestock development Centre Project with BAIF

Cattle comes after agriculture as one of the major sources of earning. However due to lack of proper cattle caring facilities the villagers are not able to earn to the best of the productivity.

HCIL in association with BAIF Development and Research foundation have taken up a 5 year project to enhance the cattle caring practices. The major objectives of the project are-

  1. To create awareness among cattle owners on improved cattle management and livestock development practices.
  2. To deliver doorstep breed enhancement and livestock management services.
  3. To develop reliable source of livelihoods and assured additional income for poor farmer households in targeted geographies.

The project has started in 10 villages with the target to provide cattle caring services to more than 600 families & 1000 cattle.

6. Water storage enhancement initiatives

Maintaining village ponds as a water reservoir has been and old age concept in the villages. It serves the single source of permanent water availability in times of need. We have been working towards enhancing the capacity of these village ponds by regular pond deepening and regular cleaning.
